- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk (or buttermilk)
- 1 cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (adjust as needed)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans and line them with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat eggs with milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually mix into the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for ten minutes before transferring to wire racks.
- For the frosting, whip softened butter with cocoa until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream until desired consistency is reached.
- Once cakes are cool, layer with frosting between each layer and cover the entire cake.
Notes
- This cake can be decorated with chocolate shavings or fresh berries for added flavor.
- Adjust heavy cream in the frosting for preferred thickness.
