Ingredients

  • 1 cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (adjust as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans and line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs with milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually mix into the dry ingredients until just combined.
  4. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for ten minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  5. For the frosting, whip softened butter with cocoa until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream until desired consistency is reached.
  6. Once cakes are cool, layer with frosting between each layer and cover the entire cake.
