Description

A delicious apple pie filling made with a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples, perfect for any pie or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples evenly, about 1/4-inch thick.
  2. Toss the sliced apples with lemon juice in a large bowl to prevent browning.
  3. In a large saucepan, combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and water. Stir and bring to a simmer over medium heat until it thickens.
  4. Add the apples to the sauce and stir to coat well. Cook on low for 10 minutes until apples are tender but not mushy.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in butter until melted and smooth.
  6. Allow the filling to cool before using in pies or storing.

Notes

  • Make sure to use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor.
  • This filling can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge.
